Alva Hodgson built the third mill on the site in 1882. The first mill was built in 1837. The second was built in 1861, but sucumbed to the rigors of the Civil War. The paddle wheel was functional for a while but was later replaced for power by a turbine.
Hodgson teamed up with his brother George for a while and the mill prospered greatly. French buhrstones were imported to use for grinding the wheat and other grains. Most or the equipment is gone from the mill and it was operated in 1995 as a gift shop by Hervert Smith. Restoration is ongoing and a Living History village was being developed across Bryant Creek.
The mill did well long into the 20th century, and finally a new mill was built in nearby Gainesville to keep up with production orders. That too has since been sold along with the original Hodgson Mill name and logo to Siemer Milling Co. (IL-025-004). Hodgson Mill products are now produced by them in Gainesville and the Illinios Plant.

"Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever; wisdom and power are his. He changes times and seasons; he sets up kings and deposes them. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning. He reveals deep and hidden things; he knows what lies in darkness, and the light dwells with him. I thank and praise you, O God of my fathers: You have given me wisdom and power."
Daniel 2:20-23 NIV |
