This brick structure was built in 1849 and operated as a steam mill until electricity came into use, even though Maries Creek was only a few blocks to the east. Perhaps the creek didn't have sufficient flows and velocities to run the mill.
In the intervening years, electricity was added, flour production ceased, and the use turned to custom feed grinding and mixing. The mill is part of the MFA, or Missouri Farmers Association.
This complex of mill buildings are directly across Walnut St. and also on the other side of the tracks; even so, it is probably part of the same milling operation.
| Directions:
At US 50 at Warrensburg go north for 16 miles on Mo 13 to Higginsville, Mo. At junction of Mo 213, turn right, on Fairgrounds Ave., and go 9-10 blocks to Walnut St. Turn left over the Illinois Central Railroad tracks and the mill is on the left along the tracks and alongside W. 22nd St. |
