The 35'X 45' stone mill built to 3.5 stories in 1792, had been substantially renovated in the late 1970's/early 1980's as a dwelling. Originally, there were two mills on the 20 acre property; but, the property was divided and only the one mill now remains on a 9.2 acre parcel.
It has been renovated to the extent that it is quite a showplace; a symbol of what can be done with an old historic structure, making it liveable, even somewhat luxurious, and still keep a remnant of the old original function. The walls are 18" thick, the ceilings have exposed beams, and the original waterwheel in still in place in the basement.
The stream/raceway was diverted off to the southeast side of the mill early in the restoration. The difference from the 1st picture to the 3rd picture represents about 6.5 years. The mill was for sale in the early 1990's under the Lisa James Otto Country Properties realty. Some information was gleaned from a prospectus of the property obtained at that time. The most recent and current owner is Mr. John E. Heintz. **Some information contributed by Mr. John E. Heintz, April 28, 2005**
| Directions:
From the junction of US 202 and Pa 413, travel about 1 mile west on US 202, turn right on Burnt House Hill Road, and go about 1 mile, crossing over Church Road. The mill is at 3111 Burnt House Hill Rd. almost across the road from the junc. of June Meadow Drive on the left. The mill is situated in off the road on a 9 acre plot. |
